How can we receive God's strength and grace unless we know our weaknesses? That day we all secretly look to, the day when the Christian life becomes "easy," the day when we are somehow mature enough to be independent of God? That day is an illusion! The goal of this journey—the believer's walk with Christ—is not self-sufficiency, but complete and utter dependence on God.
This goes against our culture and our nature; being brought low obliterates the pride of one's heart. But just as the rain and melting snow flows down the mountains to water the valleys, so the showers of God's grace bring forth abundant fruit in the life of those humbled.
His grace is sufficient! Not was or will be—it is now. Spurgeon wrote, "It is easy to believe in grace for the past and the future, but to rest in it for the immediate necessity is true faith. Believer, it is now that grace is sufficient: even at this moment it is enough for thee."
This sufficiency is inexhaustible. To doubt it would be as absurd as a sparrow thinking it will exhaust the sky; one day alighting on a branch never to fly again because it has soared through every expanse, risen on every current, glided upon the last breeze.
Therefore, let us delight in our weaknesses as a fresh, new gust of wind—elevating us to new and glorious heights of experiencing the power, sufficiency, love and grace of our Lord and Savior!
